This is the Punjabi School Grade 1st syllabus document, which outlines the curriculum and learning objectives for the course. Duration: One Year
Listening: Punjabi alphabet songs, Punjabi Rhymes, and Punjabi Poems, Stories of Punjabi culture, Simple role-playing activities & show and tell., Daily classroom conversation in Punjabi and daily used words to build the vocabulary.
Speaking: Tell his/her name, age, telephone number, address, and parents’ names in Punjabi, Punjabi Greetings and Etiquette Words, Daily chores/tasks explained in Punjabi, Vocabulary in Punjabi, Count till 20 in Punjabi.
Reading: Recite the Gurmukhi alphabet (Painty akhri), Associate Gurmukhi letters with pictures and objects, Pronounce sounds of Gurmukhi alphabet, Visual recognition and recitation of 1-20 in Punjabi. Read simple two, three and four letters Mukta words.
Vocabulary: Basic Colors, Fruits +, Vegetables +, Animals +, Body Parts +, Feelings/Emotions, Birds. Punjabi Greetings and Etiquette Words, Acknowledge friends, parents, teachers with Sat Sri Akal or Fateh. Knowledge of etiquette words in Punjabi, such as han ji, nahi ji, mehrbani ji, etc.
Writing: Write the Gurmukhi alphabet clearly and legibly on their own. Also, write Mukta words and small sentences.
Memorize names of Gurus (10), Sahibzadey (4), Pyare (5), Takhats (5), Kakars (5), Key concepts like Gurudwara etiquette, lanager etiquette, etc., Arambak Vaak of Sri Guru Granth Sahib (Mool Mantra) & Tum Sharnai aaya (Shabad), First 3 paudian Japji sahib, Basic knowledge about sikhi, Gurudwara, Darbar sahib, Guru Granth Sahib, Manji, Chaur, Chanani, Path, Kirtan, Katha, Ardaas, Golak, Degh, Nishan sahib, Langar hall (Gurudwara tour with very short explanation), Hands-on activities like Gurpurabs, and Celebrations.
