Syllabus

This is the Punjabi School Balwari syllabus document, which outlines the curriculum and learning objectives for the course. Duration: One Year

Listening   Listening and Speaking

Listening: Punjabi alphabet Songs, Rhymes, and Poems etc., Stories of Punjabi culture, Simple role-playing activities & show and tell, Daily classroom conversation in Punjabi and daily used words to build the vocabulary.
Speaking: Tell his/her name, age, and parents’ names in Punjabi. Punjabi Greetings and Etiquette Words. Daily chores/tasks explained in Punjabi. Vocabulary in Punjabi and Count till 10 in Punjabi.

Reading   Reading

Reading: Recite and Visual recognition the Gurmukhi alphabet (Painty akhri), Associate Gurmukhi letters with pictures and objects, Pronounce sounds of Gurmukhi alphabet, Visual recognition and recitation of 1-10 in Punjabi. Name the basic colors in Punjabi.

Writing   Vocabulary

Vocabulary: Daily used words include basic colors, fruits, vegetables, animals, body parts, and feelings/emotions. Additionally, students learn Punjabi greetings and etiquette words, such as acknowledging friends, parents, and teachers with 'Sat Sri Akal' or 'Fateh.' This concept is reinforced each week by beginning and ending each class with 'Fateh.' Students also acquire knowledge of etiquette words in Punjabi and an understanding of when to use them, such as 'han ji,' 'nahi ji,' 'mehrbani ji,' 'ki hall hai ji,' etc.

Vocabulary   Writing

Writing: Color Gurmukhi alphabet and Gurmukhi numbers, Write Gurmukhi alphabet and Gurmukhi numbers by tracing with pen and pencil and using some fun materials such as crayon, play dough, strings, and beans etc.

 

Gurmat   Gurmat

Memorize names of Guru Sahibs (First, Tenth & current), Numbers of Gurus (10), Sahibzadey (4), Pyare (5), Takhats (5), Kakars (5) (Just counts), Arambak Vaak of Sri Guru Granth Sahib (Mool Mantra) & Sikh Guru Da (Poem), Basic knowledge about sikhi, Key concepts like Gurudwara etiquette, lanager etiquette, Darbar sahib etc. (walk-in tour with a very short explanation.), Hands-on activities like Gurpurabs, and Celebrations.
